A Review of Sistema Scotland Big Noise Programme in Raploch, Govanhill and Torry

In April 2017 a review team from Education Scotland visited Big Noise Raploch, Big Noise Govanhill and Big Noise Torry to report on the effectiveness of the Big Noise programmes. 

Education Scotland were interested to see how our musicians help children achieve high quality learning outcomes and make good progress; how we engage with children, their families, and the wider community; and how well we are working in partnership to improve outcomes for children and young people.

Education Scotland's report found that Big Noise have the potential to transforms children's lives.

The report recognises that

  • Big Noise is helping to improve the life chances for children
  • There are examples of outstanding teaching where children get regular opportunities to perform in public and develop strong techniques on their chosen instrument
  • Events and performances in the increase community engagement with the programme
  • There is a strong child-centred focus and children experience a well-organised and well-supported range of activities
  • Through the Big Noise centres people are making new friends and mixing with different cultures
  • The report recognises the strong and productive relationships between schools and Sistema Scotland with the schools recognising and appreciating the positive contribution of Big Noise to the lives of children, families and communities
  • There is a real willingness to succeed and to realise the potential long-term benefits for learners
