The Big Noise Big Takeover

Our young musicians at Big Noise Raploch have been given a unique opportunity to run the show.

A total of 20 young people, aged between 12 and 17, took part in an after-school club 'Big Takeover' event, allowing them to plan and lead the Big Noise programme in Raploch for more than 50 other children.

Prior to takeover day, participants applied for different roles within the team, including operations and delivery roles. They crafted CVs with the help of Big Noise staff and took part in interviews.

The experience gave our young musicians a glimpse into the day-to-day running of Big Noise and helped them gain valuable insight into the recruitment process,  building interview and CV writing skills.

They took on a variety of roles, including Head of Centre, Operations Manager, Set-up Crew, Directors, as well as working in social media and communications, finance, and administration.

Reece, aged 16, who took on the job of Director of Music for the afternoon, said:
"I've had a great time today working as the Director of Music, I really enjoyed it! It has given me a great insight into how the whole system is run and the decisions that are made inside Big Noise. I've definitely got more of an understanding of what goes on behind the scenes now.

I think some of the things I've learned today will really help me going forward. I've learned a lot about why we choose to play certain pieces and instruments, and how different jobs work together.

I'm planning on doing my Advanced Highers next year and then hopefully taking a gap year before going to university, where I hope to work with Big Noise as a support musician to get even more experience to help me with my degree."

Jo Ashcroft, Head of Centre at Big Noise Raploch, said:
"We're so proud of all of the young people who took part in the Big Takeover this afternoon. Under their stewardship, our after school programme ran incredibly smoothly, and was great fun for all involved!

Through the process of writing CVs, applying and interviewing for jobs, and working as a team to run Big Noise for the afternoon, our young people have gained some extremely useful skills and valuable experience that they will be able to take on into the world of work or further study after they leave school."
