Thank you to the Ernst Maas Educational Trust

We would like to give a huge thank you to the Ernst Maas Educational Trust.

The Ernst Maas Educational Trust generously donated £94,400 to Sistema Scotland when the trust was wound up in Summer 2025.

Having provided funding to support the work of Big Noise Govanhill since 2022 we were absolutely delighted to receive such a generous award.

It has been a pleasure to get to know the trustees of The Ernst Maas Educational Trust and we really appreciate their interest in and enthusiasm for the work of Big Noise and Sistema Scotland.

We have enjoyed hosting visits to Big Noise Govanhill and having the trustees attend our regular community concerts.

The Trust was established by Eva Maas in memory of her father Ernst Maas, who was a successful businessman in pre-war Berlin. Due to the political situation existing in Germany in 1938 it was decided to send his second youngest daughter Eva, aged 15, to Britain and Eva remained in the UK, mainly in Scotland, for the rest of her life.

After leaving school Eva decided to obtain an education which would qualify her to become a psychiatric social worker and she had to rely heavily on charitable trusts for funding to achieve her goal.
Eva’s experiences convinced her that education was vital and that young people who required assistance should be helped whenever possible. This aim and also a wish to give some perpetuity to the ideals that her father held, resulted in Eva setting up the Trust.

The trust was wound up in 2025. The trustees are long time friends and were colleagues of the late Eva Maas; Imogen Beattie, Clare Devine,  and Ian Dickson.
