Simon was persuaded into playing the Bassoon aged 12 after his music teacher convinced him it was ‘just like the flute really’. Within a week he was hooked and now cannot imagine why anyone would want to play anything else. After studying at Edinburgh University and the RSAMD he was able, with the help of a scholarship from Edinburgh University, to study with Jos de Lange and Gus Draal at the Conservatoire van Amsterdam. He now works as a freelance Bassoonist and Contrabassoonist and teacher based in Scotland. Since leaving college, Simon has worked with many fine orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Northern Chamber Orchestra.
