John Paul O’Hagan was born in Glasgow in 1982 and grew up in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire. Taking up the tuba at the age of twelve, he went on to study at the
RSAMD under Anthony Swainson, David Dowall and Chris McShane. After graduating with honours in 2005, John Paul began a career in education holding
teaching posts with the RSAMD, North Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire councils. As well as his busy teaching commitments, John Paul enjoys performing
with chamber groups, brass bands and orchestras throughout Scotland.
I started playing the tuba because I was, and still am, the biggest of all of my pals!
The tuba is great because, being a bass instrument, it’s the foundation of the whole brass section.
