Iain Sandilands

Since graduating from RSAMD in 2001, Iain Sandilands has performed and recorded in a variety of genres, regularly freelancing with BBCSSO, SCO, Mr McFall’s Chamber and Red Note Ensemble. Performances at Celtic Connections 2010 included True North Orchestra, The Shetland Bus and Big Music Society. He has recorded with folk musicians Jenna Reid, Alistair McCulloch, Colin Train and Rachel Walker. Performances with The Moth & The Mirror include T in The Park, Connect and an SAC-supported Tune-Up tour with Frightened Rabbit and Phantom Band. Other recent UK tours have been with Simon Thacker and the Nava Rasa Ensemble and a setting of Brel songs with the Scottish Ensemble. Recent theatre work includes “Monacielo” at Napoli Teatro Festival Italia 2009; “Mother Courage” in 2008 and “Sweeney Todd” in 2010 at Dundee Rep Theatre.
A committed educator, he has worked as animateur and workshop leader for the Scottish Ensemble, BBCSSO, Perth Concert Hall, City Halls and Tron Theatre Glasgow and Feis Tiree. He currently tutors in Drumchapel on behalf of Children’s Classic Concerts and RSAMD Youthworks, in addition to regular sessions with a group of children whose mothers participate in WAVES, the domestic abuse project in Castlemilk.
