Sistema Scotland works in partnership with:

Fundación Musical Simón Bolívar

Formerly known as The State Foundation for the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Venezuela (FESNOJIV), Fundación Musical Simón Bolívar is a Venezuelan social programme founded by Maestro José Antonio Abreu. “El Sistema” as it has come to be known, believes the symphony orchestra and the choir are instruments of social organisation and community development.

The work was founded in 1975. Today there is a network of 180 nucleos (orchestra centres) serving 350,000 children in Venezuela. The programme has also produced the world-renowned and acclaimed Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. In 2007 Sistema Scotland became the first UK organisation to sign a partnership agreement with FESNOJIV. This partnership involves

  • Exchange of research, literature and intellectual property
  • Teacher exchange programmes
  • Technology exchanges and collaboration
  • Musician exchanges
  • International musical and cultural exchanges for the children and communities we work in

BBC Scotland

Our work is being documented by BBC Scotland, and we work closely with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra is the major performance partner of the Big Noise project in Raploch. As well as being musical inspiration for the programme by providing concerts in and outwith the community, individual musicians from within the BBC SSO will act as professional mentors to the young participants within Big Noise. The BBC SSO has an innovative and far reaching learning programme, dedicated to bringing the inspiration of great music to people of all ages and backgrounds. Regarded as one of the UK’s finest orchestras, the orchestra takes live music to venues across Scotland and its performances are broadcast on BBC Radio and Television.
