Here's something we invented that we are really proud of at Big Noise. At Easter and in summer the children can book their music teachers for a home visit we call "Take a Musician Home for Tea". These little concert parties are hugely popular. The children play, the teachers play, and everybody has a great time. Families join in and sometimes half the street ends up in a front room to hear the performance. These photos show one such concert when our teachers Ysla and Vicky were invited home by sisters Morgan and Bronwyn. All photos are by Marc Marnie

On July 6 a small group of Big Noise children performed for Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh when they visited Stirling Castle to reopen the refurbished Renaissance Palace. The children played in the Great Hall, which is the largest surviving medieval banqueting hall in Scotland. Guests included First Minister, Alex Salmond, the Earl and Countess of Mar and Kellie, Anne McGuire MP, Bruce Crawford MSP and the Lord Lieutenant Marjory McLachlan. The children played extremely well and impressed all the VIPs. Many thanks to Historic Scotland and Stirling Castle for giving us these lovely photos.

We are putting together our own technique booklet to help us teach the younger children the fundamentals of how to hold the instruments. Who better than some of our veteran string players to show them how its done. Photographer Marc Marnie took shots of children with particularly good posture, bow holds and technique.

Nicola Benedetti is one of the greatest musicians Scotland has ever produced. We are very proud that she has agreed to become the orchestra's official musical "Big Sister". In October 2010 Nicola made her first visit to Raploch to play for the children and give some of them one-to-one masterclasses. Our official photographer Marc Marnie was on hand to capture the fun, and we are also very grateful to lovely freelancer Mike Day who was along to take shots for the press and allowed us to use his beautiful work.
