After two years Big Noise had established a strong core of string players in Raploch. It was now time to add woodwind, brass and percussion instruments to make a full symphony orchestra.
The Raploch Symphony Orchestra (RSO) is our biggest ensemble. It is made up of Symphonic Band (woodwind, brass and percussion) and the Rinconada Orchestra (strings). In addition we also have the Rinconada Chamber Orchestra for the most advanced string players.
Before getting into the RSO the young people play in Concert Band (woodwind, brass and percussion) and Red Orchestra (strings).
Children get the opportunity to begin learning woodwind, brass and percussion instruments in P5 when they join Wind Band. P5 is also the year many of the string players audition to join the Red Orchestra.
In P3 children come to After School Club for the first time and join the Purple Year 1 Orchestra. After one year they can graduate to the Purple Plus Orchestra before going on to Red Orchestra.
All of the different ensembles have a mix of sectional rehearsals, musicianship sessions and full orchestra rehearsals. As part of the afterschool experience we also run choirs, a dixie band and sessions where we use improvisation and graphic scores.
In addition all of the children at Big Noise receive a weekly individual or paired lesson.
